Iran screenwriter penning scenario on Parvin Etesami

Iranian screenwriter Naghmeh Samini has been penning a scenario on the life of the Persian female poet Parvin Etesami.

Set to go for production until the end of the current Iranian year, the film will depict a new aspect of the poet’s life.

Born in 1907 in Tabriz, Etesami was a 20-century Persian poet. With her father elected as a Tabriz MP in the 2nd Iranian parliament of the time, her family moved to Tehran in 1914.

Having a very friendly relationship with her dad while being no older than 6 or 7, she participated at her father’s literary and scientific parties with high profile intellectual guests such as Malek o-Sho'ara Bahar and Aliakbar Dehkhoda.

She wrote her first poems at the age of 8 and at 11 she already knew the works of great poets such as Nasir Khusraw, Anvari, Rumi and Nezami.

A speech by Etesami, known as one of the most eloquent women’s rights statements in Iran’s contemporary history, was titled Women and History. This shows her full command and awareness of the situation of women in her era.

In March 23rd, 1941, she fell ill with typhoid fever and died 16 days later on April 5th.

Born in 1973, Samini is a film writer and critic, active as a journalist, screenwriter and university faculty.

She has written scenarios for a number of movies and series, including ‘Liar Shepherd’, ‘Three Women’, ‘Blood Game’, ‘The Sweet Taste of Imagination’, and ‘Shahrzad’ series.

She won a Crystal Simorgh from the 25th edition of the Fajr Film Festival for scriptwriting ‘Blood Game’.
